I think yes, if you would like to have a dog that is intelligent, good-mannered and muscular who will protect you and your family at all costs, then the Moscow Watchdog is the right breed for you. These dogs can become excellent watchdogs and protection dogs, as they are strong, huge and very brave. They are dominant, so early obedience training and socialization is a must for them. They like old, considerate children, and if raised together, they can do well with other dogs. Because of their natural instincts it is not recommended to keep them together with other small pets in one house. A large yard and daily exercise is a must for this dog.

The coat of the Moscow Watchdog is moderate in length, thick and dense that requires at least weekly brushing. They are average shedders. The breed is generally healthy, but they are prone to health issues like hip dysplasia and obesity.

Training the Moscow Watchdog is somewhat hard, as they can easily become stubborn and are dominant. On the other hand, they are clever and with a firm, consistent and rewarding trainer it should cause no problem.

All in all, the Moscow Watchdog is ideal for families with older kids who can provide the dog many love and affection, as well as a large yard and daily playing sessions.

I hope this article can help you decide whether the Moscow Watchdog is the best breed for you and for your family.

As a matter of fact, the Moscow Watchdog is a good protector. With their size and built they are not just intimidating by sight alone, they have the power to back up their punch! With a temperament that is gentle, they are also bred to be ferocious when needed and wary, alert and observant for any threats or anything out of the ordinary.

What is good about this breed is that they were developed to be more receptive in receiving instructions and carrying them out like good soldiers. These dogs can undergo protection training under experienced trainers who will be able to teach them to discern between a threat and rough play so chances of accidental bites will be removed or at the very least minimized. So if you are looking for a good protector who by appearance alone can chase away a potential threat, go and look up the Moscow Watchdog!

The Moscow Watchdog is a big boned breed with a thick medium length coat with fringes. A breed created in the Soviet Union after World War II, they are a combination of the St. Bernard, Caucasian Shepherd and the Russian Spotted Hound. They are usually majority white with light brown patches on the back and dark colored mask. The breed was designed to be efficient watchdogs and guard a huge span of land with strong workers during very cold seasons.

Because of this inherent function, they are not suited for apartment living due to the confined living space. They thrive in cold weather while in the summers, they are usually inactive or digging for cool spots to relax the whole day. Long walks with ample time to run are needed for adequate for exercise. Being a relatively new breed, there are not many health concerns documented however, there are cases of degeneration of pelvic joints and some allergies. They can grow up to heights between 25 to 27 inches and can weigh anywhere between 100 to 150 pounds.

Before you embark on buying a Moscow watchdog, there are some things I have to tell you. All is not what it seems with this dog. You have to..no… I emphasize: YOU HAVE TO be aware of the fact that YOU have to be the alpha male. Accepting a leading position in the so-called pack is of vital importance. Why? For two reasons. One: Because of this dog’s size and secondly because of its interesting and often unfathomable character.

It is hard to pinpoint an exact personality trait to this big dog. Often they can be submissive and react well to orders. Other times, they need a strong and assertive person to take the upper hand with them. All Moscow Watchdogs are independent and stubborn, and so consistency on your part is of utmost importance. It is best to educcate this dog from the moment you got him/her. The sooner he knows who is boss and what the rules are, the easier it is to put him on your wavelength. The best way to educate your Moscow Watchdog is to take him to a professional training school. Often, trying at home alone, will result in you flying after him while he takes YOU for a walk.

This is not a particularly sociable dog. Sure, he wants and loves attention from his owner and family, but he doesn’t crave to be in the spotlight or to be spoilt too much. Hw will often appear aloof and independent. This stems from a strong watchdog instinct, and if you are hoping to cuddle this beast, you got your work cut out for you. He is not overly affectionate, nor does he crave affection all that much. Early socialization is a must, so that it can get used to other humans and pets as well.

Usually a Moscow Watchdog will respect the assertive manner of all family members, and doesn’t choose one single owner. Thus it is not a good idea to have children next to this breed, since it will not tolerate the haphazard and weak position of children. Probems may arise, if you aim to raise both.

Apart from all this, he will make not only a great watchdog but a companion and friend for life as well. He needs an iron hand and a heart of gold to be your true friend.
