All of my research shows the Moscow watchdog is a cross between the spotted hound, causasian mountain dog and a saint bernard. Not a Bernese. So I am a bit confused. Pure breed Bernese mountain dogs do hav an average life span of 6-8 years however.

Hello.
I am one of the lucky owners of a moscow guard dog from Athens Greece. Over the past 15 years we have proudly owned 6 of these beautiful dogs but i am afraid to say that they have a small life span the eldest living to be 6 years old. The other dogs we had, which were some of the most beautiful, strong, clever dogs unfortunately died at the ages between 3-6 from natural causes. 2 from a heart attack and one from liver disease.Having loved these dogs so much we have now made a promise as a family that we will not be getting any more of these beautiful giants. They are so sweet and smart that they become part of the family and its really hard when one dies. Maybe the mixing of the breeds has made them weaker. Anyway, you have a nice blog and its so good to see someone else who loves these dogs so much!
bye bye

These dogs are not common. Especially popular in Easter Europe, in Russia and in all countries around Russia. The breed was approved in Russia in 1997. It is not approved by FCI.
